Panama Canal:
It’s a tight fit for larger ships — sometimes a matter of a few feet on either side. Once the water level in adjacent locks is equal, the gates move easily like pinball flippers into the concrete at the side of the lock. The railing on the walkway on top collapses for a closer fit.
